The Super Tuscans - 1998 Vintage

Mild and dry conditions in the late winter and early spring of 1998 encouraged early budding and accelerated vine growth. The scattered rainfall that followed had a stabilizing effect, bringing growth back to a more normal rate and ensuring excellent flowering. A hot June hastened grape formation and the vegetative cycle by ten to twelve days. The summer months brought sunny weather with temperatures well above average, especially in July, when there were long periods without rain. Although the resulting dryness slowed vine growth slightly, the grapes still ripened about a week earlier than usual. The crop was of impeccable quality, and the 1998 wines are complex and concentrated.
