Burgundy's Elite Grand Cru Wines - 1996 Vintage
The 1996 harvest was the most abundant in several years and produced wine of surprising quality. A rather hot, dry summer encouraged the vines to flower early at the beginning of June. Variable weather conditions during the summer raised some concerns, but these were soon forgotten when an exceptionally sunny and dry September allowed for an early harvest. The 1996 Burgundian reds have an intense robe and a concentrated nose. On the palate, they are fruity with good structure and fine tannins. The whites of this vintage are aromatic, rich and elegant with an interesting liveliness.
